All About New Haven, IN

One of the gorgeous corners of Indiana, New Haven is a city in Adams, Jefferson, and St. Joseph townships. It also sits in Allen County, Indiana, just east of the town of Fort Wayne, and sits mainly along the southern banks of the Maumee River.

The city was platted back in 1839 by Henry Burgess. Later, it was incorporated under Indiana law as a town in 1865 and then was incorporated as a city in 1963. Many houses and homes built by the Burgess family still stand in New Haven. In the 1850s, the Swiss Amish arrived in the region, bringing their Alsatian German Language.

The area has many important historical locations for the locals, but it is also an excellent place for those visiting it. The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society operates just east of New Haven, and it has restored Nickel Plate 765, built by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. They also fixed the Craigville Depot, another historic site completely worth visiting, especially if you are interested in the history of railroads.
